Salt & Light…

Matthew 5:13-16 reads,
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

When Jesus spoke these verses He was speaking to the disciples & He didn’t ask them He told the disciples who they already were & what they were to do from that day forward…

What do salt and light have in common???

They BOTH are powerful influences… And YOU noticed them both immediately… You can’t really hide salt & you can’t really hide light… YOU can try but if the salt is strong enough & light is bright enough it can’t be unnoticed…

The thing about salt is that nothing we can do to it can change the taste of salt… Salt is salt… NOT even if YOU put it in a jar for years it would still be salty… Which makes it pure, Amen!!! So the ONLY way that salt changes it’s flavor is when YOU mix it with something… Hence why WE can’t be of any good influence for any length of time if we’re putting anything in us that’s NOT of God… We’re supposed to be effective NOT infected by the ways of the world…

Light has so many factors but there are 2 specific things that lights does that I’d like to share…
1. It takes away darkness
2. It reveals things…

For example: If WE were all in a dark room with other people & I turned on the light switch not ONLY would WE see but we would see who & what else is in that room with US… Which is how OUR light should shine when WE walk into a room shining the light of Christ & revealing to others who Christ is in OUR life… Some will love YOUR light, some will run from YOUR light & others won’t even see the light because they’re too distracted… And that’s okay because God knows…

I believe this is why it’s important as believers to remain in the word so WE do NOT lose flavor or light in how WE speak or act…

Salt is tasted which I why I say in how YOU speak… And light is seen hence why I said in how YOU act…

The word of God has a way of changing not ONLY the way WE feel but also in the way WE think… Which will eventually change how WE speak & how WE act… This is why so it’s VERY important that WE take time to read the word DAILY… Are you being the salt & light of this generation??? sELAH
